It is sad, but true, that many PhD Candidates find the process of writing their thesis to be a lonely journey. Whilst it is an intellectually stimulating journey (most of the time), the experience of many candidates is that only five or six people in the whole world are really interested in their progress. Hi all, last night (13/02/2008) John spoke about the new PReSS accounts. There are personal research accounts for ALL PhD students. They provide $900 a year (or $1500 if you're from ISOM) for 4 years to cover primary research costs. You can accrue for up to 4 years (that's $3600 for those with poor math). You need to know about this so you can USE YOUR RESEARCH MONEY! I've add my additional notes to the end of this post. 22 Aug 2007 - 23:35 6 Sep 2007 - 23:35 Wed 5th Sept, 5-7pm in Commerce C501. The theme for Sept PhD Club networking meeting is "presenting research". We have a panel discussion addressing this issue, including "top tips" for PhD students. We have 4 discussants with varying experience of presenting research: from a mid-phase Phd student, a nearing completion PhD student, and a couple of "old hands". Come along to hear what they have to say and use the Q&A session to get your queries answered. Update on Doctoral Complete awardsSubmitted by lcal006 on Wed, 22/08/2007 - 10:31pm.
Hi all - I attended the Induction for new PhD students yesterday and the questions were asked on the Doctoral Complete awards (DCA). Gregro Costain, Dean of Graduate Studies, said that they would run until the end of next year (2008) and would be reviewed again. If you enrolled in or before 2007 you will be eligible to apply for a DCA. Basically they are phasing them out, So finish in 48 months or less and you're fine. For anyone thinking about enrolling ....... if you want a DCA, then get a move on! BROTHER Laser Printer HL 2040 for sale at NZD 80.00Submitted by eabd001 on Sat, 07/07/2007 - 2:38pm.

As you might already know, the University is currently reviewing the Doctoral Completion Awards. Representatives from the Business School PhD Club will be attending the focus groups organized for next week by the Post Grad Centre to discuss this issue. It is really important to get your feedback on this matter so that we can represent the Business PhD Students accurately. |
